Spiringen: Safe and Accident Free Motorcycles – Prevention Campaign “Super Biker” 2022

On Saturday 11 June 2022 (alternate date 12 June 2022), from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm the “Super Biker” motorcycle prevention campaign will take place in good weather at Urnerboden in Klausenstrasse.

“Super Biker” is a preventive campaign carried out by the Glarus and Uri Police Corps, in cooperation with the Office of Road Traffic and Shipping of the Canton of Uri, with the aim of reducing the number of motorcycle accidents. Representatives of both legions will be present to welcome the motorcyclists. Questions related to motorcycles, road safety and accident prevention will be answered. An expert from the Road Traffic Bureau can also get to the bottom of technical questions.

The campaign can be seen by the many posters placed along the popular motorcycle routes between May and October. At the heart of prevention work are coordinated campaigns in which people seek dialogue with cyclists and the distribution of brochures with useful advice on accident prevention.

Needless to say, target traffic monitoring (noise, technical specifications, etc.) and speed checks are also performed on busy and common motorcycle roads.

Ore and Glarus County Police are looking forward to seeing a large number of people and wish all motorcyclists have accident-free trips.

Sisikon: Axenstrasse closed due to rockfall

Today, Whitsunday, June 5, 2022, at about 1:30 pm, monitoring devices detected the movements of the terrain in the “Gumpisch” area, which subsequently caused the stones to collide with the safety nets above Axenstrasse. As a result, Axenstrasse was immediately closed and vehicles turned around. No one was hurt. According to preliminary results, the road and bridge were not damaged.

Due to the current weather conditions (heavy rain), more rockfalls/debris flows cannot be ruled out at the moment. For safety reasons, Axenstrasse will remain closed to traffic between the Flüelen roundabout and the Wolfsprung intersection until further notice.

As soon as weather conditions allow, the situation on site will be assessed by professionals. The Federal Roads Office will inform FEDRO if there are any further findings.

Gotthard: Traffic procedures on public holidays have an impact

The effects of holiday traffic and public holidays were noticeable in Uri on Easter and Ascension Day. In all likelihood, this also applies to Pentecost, Corpus Christi and the start of the summer holiday season. Traffic congestion is expected from midday Friday, June 3, 2022 before Pentecost, and from midday on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 before Corpus Christi. However, the Uri Cantonal Police is ready for this.

For years, the cantonal police in Uri have been trying to direct traffic in long-standing traffic jams on the A2 motorway in such a way that the cantonal road is accessible to local, private and public transport as well as rescue and emergency vehicles at all times and without interruption. Together with FEDRO’s Traffic Management Center, it manages motorway traffic as well as metering and sometimes closing motorway entrances and exits. However, the cantonal road was partially loaded beyond its maximum capacity on Easter and boarding.

Highway exits will continue to be measured in a targeted manner

In order to avoid overloading on the cantonal road on the upcoming public holidays and at the beginning of the vacation period, the special transport service, if necessary, will organize the unloading from the motorway in addition to the previous control measures. This means that only a large number of cars are allowed into the cantonal road so that there is as little congestion as possible. On Easter and Ascension Day, it affected motorway exits in Erstfeld and Amsteg. This management of motorway exits has had the effect of preventing many road users from driving on the Cantonal Road. However, it is likely that in exceptional cases, such as breakdowns or accidents, traffic on the Cantonal Road will be stopped for a short period.
