Mercedes wanted to begin serial production of the super sports car One shortly after its premiere in 2017. The complex drive train caused problems – which have now apparently been resolved.

At the Festival of Speed in Goodwood from June 23-26, Mercedes-AMG will present the production version of its Hypercar One, originally announced for 2019, now in production. The two-seater sports car brings Formula 1 hybrid driving technology legally onto the road.

The high-revving 1.6-liter V6 gasoline engine and four electric motors deliver 782 kW / 1,063 hp. Mercedes does not specify the torque value for the drive system. “There is no information due to the complexity of the driving train,” says the datasheet. The One also owes its market launch, which was three years late, to this complexity.

The effort should have been worth it given the performance. The 1.7-tonne car is said to accelerate to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, drop the 200 mark after seven seconds, and take 15.6 seconds to reach 300 km/h. A maximum of 352 km / h is possible. The One also masters pure electric driving. However, the AMG premium project covers just 18 kilometers without emissions. Energy storage is tightly sized at 8.4 kWh.

Developed for the racing track

Of course, the focus is on performance on the right track. For this purpose, The One has been equipped with many cool concepts from racing. They include a push-rod chassis, carbon monocoque, carbon body, carrier unit, fully variable all-wheel drive with torque vectoring, active aerodynamics or carbon ceramic brake system with six-piston fixed calipers.

There is also a taste of racing inside. Here, a maximum of two people receive fixed sport seat covers, while the pedal box and racing steering wheel can be electrically adjusted to suit the driver. At the same time, The One also offers amenities such as electric windows, air conditioning, and a touchscreen infotainment system. Also on display are the instrument cluster and the digital interior mirror, which shows recordings from the camera built into the rear.

With Deus Vayanne, a new electric sports car is expected to be put on the market in 2025.

ABS and ESP are also on board to facilitate daily use in road traffic. The latter can be deactivated on the track. In addition, the driver can choose between driving programs such as “EV”, “Race Safe” and “Race”. There is also a selection of aerodynamics programs for the driving modes, which allow, for example, to maximize downforce on the racetrack and therefore higher cornering speeds.

Anyone who wants to buy a single device will be disappointed: the 275 advertised copies have already found buyers despite the unit price of more than three million euros.
