Joel Kelso: Dropped an deserted motorbike / Moto3

Joel Kelso was involved in a strange accident during the warm-up for Jerez through no fault of his own. The 18-year-old CIP-KTM rider had to give up the race due to pain.

During the warm-up period on Sunday morning, Ricciardo Rossi and Ivan Ortola clashed directly on the back of the Jerez circuit with dire consequences. The latter was taken off the KTM during the crash, but the bike in MTA colors kept rolling. In the end, it was Joel Kelso who suffered the most, as an abandoned motorbike dropped him into the next corner and was ruthlessly thrown into the gravel bed (To the crash video on Twitter).

After an examination at the medical center, the 18-year-old Australian was declared fit. He then started the race from 12th on the grid, but had to give up after just four laps. The pain in the right foot and in the back area was very severe.

SIC58’s Riccardo Rossi received a long penalty kick for Jerez GP for the accident. The FIM MotoGP hosts saw his sudden maneuver as the cause of the accident.

“It was an unfortunate end,” Kelso sighed. “I felt strong in the warm-up but unfortunately I got off another bike. The impact was very hard. Unfortunately I couldn’t finish the race. I tried, but after four laps I couldn’t do it anymore. I feel sorry for the team, hopefully we can come back stronger for testing this week and racing Le Mans Grand Prix”.

Because the CIP Green Power team plans to hold special tests on Thursday and Friday at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Thursday and Friday before the start of the French Grand Prix at Le Mans in ten days.
